When you are not playing golf at Glynhir or on any of the other fine golf courses in the county why not take some time out to enjoy and explore this wonderful county both during the week and at weekends. It is known as the Garden of Wales because it is rich in wild flowers and plants of all kinds which grow in the peaceful countryside of the area. Visitors should not miss the chance to visit the many gardens open to the public.
Within twenty minutes of Glynhir Golf Club we have the terraced gardens and deer park at Golden Grove and the famous Aberglasney Garden near Llandeilo made up of many different gardens, now thankfully restored after many years of growing wild.
A few miles down the road towards Carmarthen at Llanarthney we have the National Botanic Garden of Wales, set in over 500 acres there is much to be seen and a plant lovers paradise. The jewel in the crown is the great glass dome which houses plants from many parts of the world.
If you love the great outdoors then a visit to the many country parks might be of interest, on our doorstep we have the Brecon Beacons National Park, Pembrey Country Park, the National Wetlands Centre at Llanelli, and Llyn Llech Owain Country Park.
Fishing is in abundance and the new race course at Ffos Las is only a few miles away.
Where ever you go in the county there seems to be a castle around every corner, and none more spectacular than Carreg Cennen, with amazing views over the local countryside, and with some luck you may see a red kite circling below in the valley. With castles from Llandovery to Llanstephan from Kidwelly to Newcastle Emlyn the county must have had a stormy past, why not explore and enjoy some of the heritage.
A visit to the county town on market day is a must, with many stalls in the covered market selling local produce, cockles, mussels, home cured bacon and ham, butter, cream, bara brith, welsh cakes, fresh sewin and salmon cought by coracle men. The lanes and streets have many small shops, boutiques, craft shops, and plenty of places to eat.
